The village itself is set on the edge of the Peak District National Park and you can walk through the bluebell woods by the river Hipper or up onto Beeley Moor for wonderful views over the stately home of Chatsworth House (7 miles). Historic Chesterfield (5 miles) has a cobbled marketplace and plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants, and Hardwick Hall (12 miles), features an impressive collection of 16th-century textiles, furniture and art as well as impressive gardens and parkland.

We had an anxious start to our holiday, as Storm Babet had struck the day before we were due to travel, and with much of Derbyshire flooded, we were worried that we might not be able to get to Cara Cottage. However, the owners were so helpful, and spent time researching a route we could travel using only roads that were still open. We therefore manRead moreaged to arrive OK, and had a wonderful week. The cottage is lovely and superbly placed for exploring the area. We would definitely stay there again. Hide

A well equipped, comfortable cottage in a beautiful spot. There is good access into Bakewell, Baslow and Chesterfield as well as all the Peaks to go tourist spots. It is worth noting the cottage is on a working farm so tractors do pass by throughout the day (although none at an unreasonable time for us) and it can smell quite 'farmy' some days. This is lovely cottage with a great view over a valley. Rooms are large but have a cosy and warm feel. Great location for visits to historical sites and houses like Chatsworth. The are lots of walks in the area. Plus Chesterfield, Matlock and Bakewell are in easy reach for shopping. A great place for a getaway.

Very comfortable and well equipped property, very kind and obliging host. However, I don't think your company's website does it justice.

We were very happy with our two week stay. Everything was as good or better than we expected. Our only disappointment was the description of the location: 0.5 miles to the nearest pub for a meal was a woeful underestimate and completely omitted to mention the 14% hill so we had to drive to eat out.
