A unique little 'castle', built as a nurseryman’s cabin about 150 years ago, this delightful retreat has been renovated to become an enticing holiday home. Sleeping three guests, the two-bedroom hideaway is in the hamlet of Darley Hillside, close to Darley Dale, 3 miles from Matlock. From here, lace up your walking boots and head off into the picturesque Peak District to follow footpaths, hike up mountains and discover beauty spots. Head into Matlock to spend afternoons browsing in shops and stopping in cafes for cream teas. Catch a steam train from Matlock to Rowsley to take in the scenery from the comfort of a carriage. Visit Bakewell, 6 miles away, to visit the market and taste the famous pudding.
Follow the steps down to the castle then let yourselves in to find a holiday retreat with a reverse-level design. A comfortable double bedroom and a single bedroom are situated on the ground floor, together with a family shower room. The lounge/kitchen/diner, with its scenic views, is on the first floor of the castle, where you can fire up the wood burner and settle in its cosy glow to watch TV or a DVD. The kitchen area is well equipped for preparing holiday meals and there is a dining table beside a Juliet balcony with French doors that can be opened up on fine days. There is also a shed adjacent to the castle with freezer and washing machine.
This holiday home has a gorgeous roof terrace, with patio furniture, where you can dine out on sunny days or have a drink as the sun goes down and soak up the scenery.
